Fourth Of July Playlist

You oughta know music

Y’all, it’s Fourth of July Weekend!  I’m getting ready for a weekend of family, cookouts, boat rides at the lake, and fireworks.  Hope you also have fun plans for celebrating America’s birthday.  Here is a list of songs, celebratory, patriotic, and regionally sentimental, to help get you in a festive mood:

“This Land is Your Land” – Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings*

“Story of Tonight” – We the Kings**

“Firework” – Katy Perry

“Born in the USA” – Bruce Springsteen

“Dixieland Delight” – Alabama

“Freedom” – Paul McCartney***

“(Get Your Kicks on ) Route 66” – Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters

“Surfin’ USA” – The Beach Boys

“Wagon Wheel” – Darius Rucker

“Empire State of Mind” – Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys

“Carolina In My Mind” – James Taylor

“Party in the USA” – Miley Cyrus****

“Southern Voice” – Tim McGraw

~ Candace

* I am currently in LOVE with this song.  You might recognize it from the opening credits of the 2009 George Clooney movie “Up in the Air”, and you know Sharon Jones from the new “Midnight Rider”/Matthew McConaughey/Lincoln car commercial (Seriously, someone pay me to drive a car and look cool.  Please!)

** Great cover of a song from the musical Hamilton that will have you “raise a glass to freedom!”

*** You know I had to find a way to include Paul!  This song written after 9/11 will leave you feeling patriotic.

**** I know, I know, Miley!  It hurts me a little bit to list this song, but it is just so darn peppy!!  Plus the Fourth really is a party in the USA…
